The Bat and Ball
Sometimes we stumble across what could only be described as the perfect pub, and The Bat and Ball in Cuddesdon, Oxfordshire, meets most of our 'perfect pub' requirements. This cosy, countryside coaching inn boasts oodles of English eccentricities and the restaurant – decorated with original beams, flagstone floors, a crackling open fire and bare brick walls – is adorned with retro posters and antique cricket memorabilia adding a certain British battiness to the whole mise en scene. Surrounded by Oxfordshire countryside, yet only 5 miles from the Oxford city centre, this is a super place to come for lazy lunches, tasty sharing platters and bottomless bottles of merlot in winter and sneaky al fresco frivolity in summer.

The Old Parsonage Restaurant
A beautifully appointed, privately owned hotel mere minutes walk from Oxford centre and boasting famed colleges as neighbours, The Old Parsonage boasts a truly special restaurant. Set within a historic building dating back to around 1660, The Old Parsonage offers a dining experience bar none. Not only are the surroundings, reminiscent of days gone by in the choice of heritage red paint colours and characterful old gilt framed portraits, stunning but The Old Parsonage’s food is equally as sublime. With a simple philosophy based around using only the very best produce, Head Chef Simon Cottrell has adapted traditional recipes as well as devising entirely new creations too, resulting in a menu with wide appeal, renowned for game and seafood dishes.

The Randolph
Among Oxford’s most renowned dining destinations, The Randolph Hotel’s eponymous restaurant is as popular with the locals as it is with residents of the five star hotel. Typically Oxfordian, complete with views of the city’s infamous spires and the Ashmolean Museum which stands just across the road, The Randolph is a traditional, attractively decorated restaurant with majestic mouldings, gilt framed portraits and roaring fireplaces all reminiscent of a grand baronial hall. The Randolph boasts two AA rosettes plus a wealth of other distinctions from those in the know, all earned not only thanks to the surroundings but for the exacting service and triumphant all-British cuisine. Post-dinner enjoy a drink in Morse’s Bar, named after the city’s most famous detective.
