Branca
Oxford’s Branca has been serving up honest Italian food in a stylish environment since 2000 – that’s a lifetime in restaurant terms. Branca’s interior takes its cue from classic Italian designs; Alessi, Gaggia, Ferrari. Combining sleek red leather with dark wood and a little chrome throughout the light and airy bar area and in to the warehouse style restaurant. The modern Italian menu is equally good looking, taking the cuisine a step further than the usual spaghetti Bolognese to bring fresh and exciting flavours from across Italy to the table. Expect to find the likes of Braised Oxtail Ragu with Rigatoni alongside a small but perfectly formed selection of pizzas and risottos.

Fire and Stone
Pizza lovers in the Oxford area will already be familiar with this Italian institution on George Street which spans two floors and is famous for its pizza toppings which take you on a journey across the globe from Bombay to Byron Bay. Fire and Stone’s exotic pizza toppings are guaranteed to impress the most adventurous foodies, and the restaurant itself is a grand space decorated with marble floors, plum-coloured walls and plenty of glass, mirrors and bright colours. We prefer the loungey atmosphere of the downstairs dining room which comes complete with a backlit bar and booths – but the whole restaurant is a child-friendly space that is also suitable for business dining and group celebrations.

Zizzi
Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. In honour of Oxford's rich literary history, this branch of Zizzi runs their very own book club! If you need another reason to visit, it's also handily located in the centre of town, close to buses and trains as well as theatres and cinemas.
